Definitions of Coverages available on Auto policies: (additional coverages may be available with different carriers)
Bodily Injury Liability: pays the medical and other expenses of people injured in an accident you cause. The minimum required in WA State is 25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident.
Property Damage Liability: covers the damage your car causes to property, usually the other car or cars involved in the accident - but also any objects you may hit such as building, guardrails, or any other object…). The minimum required in WA state is $10,000.
Collision: covers the damage done to your car when it collides with another car or object. Usually a deductible (like a co-pay) is applied to this coverage. Deductible can vary from $100 to $2500.
Comprehensive: This coverage is sometimes called "Other than Collision" and covers damage to your car that results from something other than a moving collision. For example damage caused by theft, vandalism, fire or failing objects. Usually a deductible (like a co-pay) is applied to this coverage. Deductible can vary from $100 to $2500.
Medical Payments or Personal Injury Protection (PIP): pays medical expenses, disability and even funeral expenses for you and members of your family and passengers in your car if it is involved in a collision, regardless of who caused the accident. It also covers you as a pedestrian if you are hit by a vehicle.
Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist: covers injuries to you, and, in some cases, damage to your car, if you are hit by a driver who doesn't have insurance or not enough insurance to cover your damages.
Rental Car Coverage / Loss of Use: It reimburses expenses incurred when renting a substitute for an insured auto disabled by a covered loss which exceeds the applicable deductible.
